Excursion: Improving Playback Quality

To improve the playback quality of the video you should use Zoomplayer for .ogm files and mplayer2 (old Windows Media Player 6) for .avi files. (Translator: I would rather recommend BSPlayer but this is of course all just personal opinion!)

There you can of course adjust the postprocessing levels of the DivX Decoder. While playing a video right click into the Picture-> Properties -> Extended -> DivX Decoder Filter.
You can also choose this from your start menu: Programs > DivX > DivX (Pro) Codec > Decoder Configuration
In the window that pops up set "Quality Level" to max to start. If the movie skips, slowly decrease the value until the skipping stops (high quality uses a lot of processor power).

Another possibility is to use the ffdshow filter, another DirectShow filter that gives you far more options than the standard filter.
(e.g. you can sharpen or smooth your image, you can flip the video, correct your aspect ratio or even deinterlace it, if you forgot to do this during postprocessing ;-)
